FIELD NOTES / 03
A quick checklist for the moments before the house opens and the show begins.
Take these in order. Confirm anything unfamiliar with the teacher or technician in charge.
Know the cue list, who is calling the show, and who is at each desk. Keep the run sheet where you can read it.
Confirm the correct show is loaded, the intended mode is active, and no unexpected blackout, mute or solo state is on.
Walk the space. Test lighting looks and spoken audio at a sensible level from more than one seat.
Make sure cables are tidy and secure. Test each microphone and keep spare mics muted until needed.
Agree the cue words and who responds. Keep chatter down once the show is underway.
When you make a lighting change, look at the actual stage and confirm the result. Don’t rely on the desk screen alone.
